Having a side hustle means getting to chase an idea you actually believe in — to pursue a passion, get creative, and bring something new into the world. Some of our favourite moments are the fun, hands-on ones: styling a photoshoot, testing a new print, watching an idea go from sketch to shelf.
Working From Home (Cat Included) or Dog
Of course, it's not all photoshoots. Working from home comes with its own cast of characters — namely, a cat who has firm opinions about being included in the workday. I was going to call this: "The Reality of a Side Hustle: Balancing Passion, Admin and a Very Needy Cat" Staying focused with a four-legged co-worker demanding attention isn't always easy, but the flexibility and comfort of WFH life usually wins out over the interruptions. I know my business partner has the same with her cute dogs, they are always hanging around.
The Admin Nobody Warns You About
Then there's the admin. It's essential, it's constant, and it's the part that gets pushed to 'tomorrow' more often than we'd like to admit. Balancing the creative work we love with the invoices, emails and logistics that keep the business running is an ongoing juggle — and honestly, one of the biggest lessons of building something from scratch.
